Most air conditioning problems don’t happen overnight — there are usually warning signs for weeks before a system actually fails. Catching them early is cheaper, and a lot less stressful than waiting for a breakdown on the hottest day of the year.
1. It’s not cooling like it used to
If a room takes noticeably longer to cool, or never quite reaches the temperature you’ve set, that’s often a sign of low refrigerant, a struggling compressor, or a filter so dirty it’s choking airflow.
2. Water is pooling near the indoor or outdoor unit
A healthy system drains condensation away cleanly. A blocked or cracked drain line will leak — left unchecked, that water damages flooring, walls and the unit itself.
3. New noises
Rattling, buzzing, grinding or clicking that wasn’t there before almost always means something mechanical has come loose, worn out, or is about to fail.
4. Odd smells when it runs
A musty smell usually points to mould or moisture build-up inside the unit. A burning smell is more serious — turn the system off and call a technician straight away.
5. Your energy bill has crept up
If the system is running longer and harder for the same result, it’s working less efficiently than it should — which costs you money every single day it goes unaddressed.
If you’re seeing any of these, it’s worth getting it looked at before a small fault turns into an expensive one. See how our repair service works, or get in touch for a quote.
